Since Russia’s full-scale invasion was launched in February 2022, Kyiv has stepped up its pursuit of Nato and EU membership, steps that it regards as vital for its self-defence and independence from Russia but are opposed by Moscow.

Several waves of Russian drones targeted the Ukrainian capital of Kyiv in the early hours of Monday morning. Meanwhile, Russian President Vladimir Putin has said Moscow will achieve "all goals" in Ukraine.

In a five-hour attack on Kyiv, Ukraine's air defense systems successfully thwarted several waves of Russian drones. Authorities reported no casualties or significant damage. Mayor Vitali Klitschko noted emergency responses to debris near residential areas.
