RAF fighter jets were scrambled to monitor a Russian military aircraft near UK airspace. Two Typhoons from RAF Lossiemouth in Scotland tracked a Russian Bear-F aircraft as it flew over the North Sea on Thursday, the Ministry of Defence confirmed.

RAF fighter jets were scrambled after one of Vladimir Putin’s reconnaissance aircraft was detected flying near to British airspace. Two Typhoons from RAF Lossiemouth were deployed from Moray to keep watch of the Russian Bear-F plane as it flew dangerously close over the North Sea.

The Royal Navy also shadowed Russian military vessels passing through the English Channel this week, officials said.
