City of Madison residents voted Tuesday to approve a $22 million funding referendum, that would address a structural deficit in the city's operating budget.

Madison Mayor Satya Rhodes-Conway thanked the people of Madison late Tuesday night for voting to pass the city's referendum.

The referendum aims to address the most pressing needs in two of the district’s seven school buildings, Grant Elementary and High School.

The Milton School District’s recurring referendum narrowly passed Tuesday night by 164 votes. The referendum asked voters to approve $5 million annually in perpetuity until there is action to remove it.

Voters have passed two referendums for the Madison Metropolitan School District. One was a $100 million operations referendum. As of 1 a.m. on Wednesday, 96% of precincts were in and 79% of voters approved of the operational referendum.
