With everyone looking for how they can help East Tennessee during this time of need, 6 News has teamed up with the East Tennessee Foundation to help area communities recover from Hurricane Helene.

Douglas Dam was spilling a record amount of water, 450,000 gallons a second. The Nolichucky Dam withstood twice the water flow of Niagara Falls.

Area law enforcement and emergency management agencies are warning drivers to avoid high waters and use caution. Flood warnings are in effect for several counties in East Tennessee. 6 News’ crews and viewers have captured photos of flooding, heavy rain and trees down throughout the region.

A group of Knoxville Police Dept. and Knoxville Fire Dept. members were deployed to Washington County to help ground search.

The remnants of Hurricane Helene thrashed East Tennessee on Friday, causing catastrophic flooding in several communities near the North Carolina border. The big picture: Towns were evacuated and whole homes were carried away by record-breaking floodwaters.
