When Kevin Costner produced, directed, and starred in his first epic Western, “Dances with Wolves,” back in 1990, he went home on Academy Awards night with an armful of Oscars — including a Best Director statue in a year when his competition included Martin Scorsese and Francis Ford Coppola.

While Chapter 2 of Kevis Costner’s epic Western Horizon Saga was originally slated to come out on August 16, 2024, the film has been indefinitely delayed (following low box office performance for Part 1) with the hopes that more fans will check out Horizon Chapter 1 before Part 2 debuts.

An American Saga, is going to have future installments despite the low box office returns of the first film. Produced on a reported budget of $50 million budget, Horizon: An American Saga – Chapter 1 could only recoup a measly $33 million.

Following the lukewarm response to "Part 1," Warner Bros. pulled the release of "Part 2," forcing Costner to seek backing for the final 2 parts of his Western epic elsewhere.

Kevin Costner has pumped a lot of his own cash into his Horizon: An American Saga franchise. But is that enough to save his Western movies?
