More than 80% of Floridians don’t have flood insurance and FEMA was unprepared for the deluge of assistance calls after Hurricane Milton made landfall near Siesta Key, Florida on October 9, according to agency data.

FEMA has announced that Floridians who sustained losses from Hurricanes Milton and/or Helene have two weeks remaining to apply for federal assistance.

FEMA has had disaster survivor assistance teams canvassing the 63 Georgia counties hit hard by the storm. Their teams were in southeast Atlanta passing out flyers and talking with homeowners who may not know they qualify for assistance.
