An orca who captured the world’s attention in 2018 after she carried her dead newborn calf for weeks appears to be a new mother again, bringing a sign of hope to researchers.

The whale, known to the world as Tahlequah, gave birth to her second calf since 2018, when she carried her dead newborn for more than two weeks.

In 2018, an orca named Tahlequah carried her dead calf with her for a heart-breaking 17 days. Now, six years later, she's given birth to another calf.
