Woonsocket based CVS said they plan to layoff a total of 632 in-person and remote workers starting on Dec. 8 in order to “slash costs.” The cuts include 1 percent of their workforce, and a total of $2 million dollars in corporate costs.

Only 153 of the terminated employees work at the Woonsocket headquarters or surrounding facilities while the remaining affected employees work remotely, reporting to leaders in Woonsocket.

More than 600 employees who work out of CVS Health’s Woonsocket headquarters, including 80 state residents, will lose their jobs in December, according to a notice filed with the Rhode Island Department of Labor and Training on Sunday,

CVS Health has notified the state that it will be laying off 416 employees and that includes 93 in Connecticut. In 2018, Rhode Island-based CVS Health acquired Hartford-based Aetna to create one of the biggest healthcare conglomerates in the world.

CVS filed a WARN notice with the state that it intends to lay off 153 jobs based in RI and hundreds more remote jobs that report into RI.
