When it isn't busy you might be able to park near the ship. When the cruise ships are docked, don't even try it. You will get stuck in cruise traffic. There is paid parking across the street from the aquarium (aquarium is in front of the ship). Or take the free trolley in. It stops on the street in front.
Q:
Can you explore all through the ship on your own?
A:
Yes you can... you have to reserve a private tour but you can go thru the whole ship on your own
Q:
How long should I plan on being here?
A:
if you are a historian or just like history, spend as much time Lurking about the ship, but if it's curiosity that is getting you, about an hour should be fine
Q:
Is it covered from rain?
A:
It is only partially covered and is best visited on a sunny day.
