There are plenty of spots, using google maps plot Taupo to Omori and you will find that it follows the lake and plenty of options for photos etc The challenge you have is, to ensure you are close by to shops etc and for that Taupo township is great albeit a bit commercial You could get a motel or hotel on the side of the lake which is on the right if you are driving south, also suggest go 2 kilometres south for accomodation
