The venue was great, just a heads up, if you sit in the first row balcony (we did) the railing is very low so don’t sit here if you’re scared of heights. The plus side is the railing doesn’t interrup… Full review by KeithF928

First let me say Avery Amereau was flawless as Carmen, in fact all the opera singers were terrific. The orchestra performed beautifully as well. My disappointment was with the lack of costumes, or se… Full review by Shonadee M

What is the typical attire? We are going to see the 'Music of the Who' .

Attire seems to run the gamut at every concert I have attended. Personally, i have always felt that a JSO concert was a special event and warranted dressing up a bit. During the summer months I have worn dress slacks and a turtle neck sweater. As the weather cools I would add a jacket. For the Xmas concert I wear a suit and tie. Bottom line: wear what you would be comfortable in and being seen in. Enjoy. We are attending the same concert.
Thoroughly enjoy the performances, with regards to the professionalism of the musicians and conductor. I am perplexed about the extremely uncomfortable seating. Is anything being done to enhance the comfort and space of the seats? We are not extremely large individuals and the seats seem to be very small. Our son is a large guy, stands approx. 6'5". He could not endure the full experience due to the extreme discomfort. It's sad that we have such a great orchestra and a really nice symphonic venue, yet the seats are miserable.

That is a very good question, but I am not qualified to answer. I suggest contacting the symphony office to see what they have to say. One thing they might recommend are the chair seating on both sides of the hall.
Where were you seated? I am debating between Orchestra section row Y vs. Mezzanine Box seats for Porgy and Bess in February. I'm just not sure if the Mezzanine Box seats would be further away than the Orchestra section.... Decisions, decisions!

We've done both. For the New Year's Eve concert, we were in row M (just in front of the side exits) and the audio was wonderful there. We had box seats for the Christmas Pops concert on the 14th and they're just as good in my opinion. The best part about the box seats (in my opinion) is the ability to stretch out a little. I'm 6'10" and the space between the orchestra seats is a little tight for me (I'm all legs :) )
What is the view like from the Mezzanine Box seats? Would Orchestra Row Y allow for a better view at the same price?

To be honest, you cannot go wrong with the views no matter which ticket you decide to purchase. The last time I was there, I had seats in the Mezzanine Box and they were great as you are on the second story and you can still easily see the stage without any obstructions. I also feel it is a bit more intimate up there with less ruckus, less people, etc. There is way more happening in the Orchestra Rows as you are on the ground level (most popular seats!) and you are a lot more "up close and personal" with events on stage. Sometimes when there are interactions from the stage, they only occur with people around the Orchestra Rows so it makes it a bit more exciting because you forget that there are even people sitting behind you! Personally, I'd probably pick the Orchestra Rows because I enjoy being engulfed by the sounds and you tend to find all your friends up there coming to see the same show! There is a different buzz happening on the Orchestra Rows when you are anxiously waiting for the show to begin! However, again, you can't go wrong either way!! Enjoy!
