Matei is a commune in Bistrița-Năsăud County, Transylvania, Romania. It is composed of six villages: Bidiu, Corvinești, Enciu, Fântânele, Matei, and Moruț. The commune lies on the Transylvanian Plateau, in the Nösnerland historic region of northeastern Transylvania. It is located in the southern part of Bistrița-Năsăud County, at a distance of 27 km from the town of Beclean and 34 km from the county seat, Bistrița; the city of Gherla is 38 km to the west, in Cluj County.
