The Des Moines Civic Center is home to Des Moines Performing Arts. The theater features a 76-foot wide by 28-foot high proscenium stage, which is the focal point for a fan-shaped continental seating area that accommodates an audience of 2,744. The Des Moines Civic Center opened its doors in June of 1979. Since then, the venue has built a reputation as one of the nation’s leading theaters to experience a touring Broadway performance, concert or other special presentation. The Civic Center is also the performance home of the Des Moines Symphony and other resident theater organization. The Civic Center also houses the Stoner Theater. Des Moines Performing Arts continues to serve as one of Iowa’s premier non-profit arts organizations.
